Thaumatica

The house

A name that asserts only that you will wonder.

Thaumatica publishes nothing. It stands behind archives that each catalog a contested subject, and it guarantees one thing about all of them.

What this is

Three archives, each cataloguing a subject that has spent a century being reported badly: ancient places, esoteric books, aerial phenomena. Thaumatica is the house that stands behind them and the standard they are all held to.

The problem it solves is specific. Most reference works on these subjects fail in one of two directions. They print every legend as fact, or they leave out anything unproven — and a reader cannot tell which kind they are holding until they have already trusted it. Our archives do neither: contested and rejected material stays in the catalog, labelled, with the evidence attached. That is the whole promise. Read the standard.

The name

From the Greek θαῦμα (thauma) — a wonder, a marvel — the thing that stops you where you stand. Aristotle’s claim that philosophy begins in wonder. The -ica suffix files it as a body of knowledge rather than a single object, the way Mathematica or Esoterica do.

It was chosen because it names the response the archives produce rather than making a claim about the objects. That distinction is load-bearing. These are catalogs that grade their own entries down to pseudoarchaeology, so any name asserting that the stones or the sightings are genuinely marvellous is a name the products spend all day contradicting. Thaumatica asserts only that you will wonder — which stays true of every entry whatever its seal says, and stays true when cryptids, folklore and lost technology arrive later.

It also does the family work for free. Mysteria · Libra Esoterica · UAP Nexus · Thaumatica reads as one house on first sight, which is exactly the job of an endorsement mark.

Endorsed house

Each property keeps its own name, domain and audience. The house supplies the endorsement, the shared plumbing and the standard — and appears in the second half of the lockup, never the first.

One account

Three separate logins to three sites run by the same people is a poor offer, and three separate subscriptions is a worse one. The house exists partly to fix that.

Sign-in will live here, on thaumatica.com, with each archive as a satellite that redirects and syncs the session back. Hosting it on one of the archives instead would mean bouncing a Mysteria visitor to a book library in order to log into an atlas of megaliths. With the house as primary, what they see is one account for all the archives, which is the actual promise.

Membership is intended to be house-wide: one subscription that unlocks the paid tier on every property, priced above any single site and below three of them. Libra Esoterica sells its Pro tier today; existing subscribers would be carried over rather than asked to buy again. Neither of these has shipped, and this page will say so until it has.

The visual system

Both live properties already shared a dialect before the house had a name — a near-black ground, bone type rather than pure white, a serif for display, and monospace reserved for anything carrying a catalog number. The house formalises it and adds one rule: one metal per property.

Thaumatica

The house metal is the quiet one, so it never outshines the archive it endorses.

A light theme exists on every property — limestone on Mysteria, vellum on Libra Esoterica, alabaster here — and each is a designed target rather than a dimmed inversion of the dark one. Every colour pairing on this site is measured: body text at 4.5:1 or better, large type and borders at 3:1, on both grounds.

The house device is a four-point spark inside a ring that does not close. The spark is the thauma; the gap is the part of every entry that is still open, which is the only claim this house makes about all of its material at once.

Still open

Published here because a house whose product is showing its evidence should show its own unfinished business too.

  • The UAP Nexus metal is provisional. Magnesium — a cold flare against three warm archives — is the current choice, and it has not been tested against the site’s own material.
  • Trademark clearance in classes 41 and 42 has not been completed. Nothing here is legal clearance.
  • House-wide membership and shared sign-in are decided in principle and not yet built.
  • UAP Nexus has no catalog yet. It is listed because it is being built, not because it is ready.

Corrections to any archive belong on the entry that is wrong, and every archive has a route for them. For anything about the house itself — the standard, the architecture, or a subject you think belongs in it — write to hello@thaumatica.com.
